Moonlight Picnic

The Mid-autumn Moon Festival is big in Chinese culture. As it suggests it's celebrated when the full moon appears the largest, in the Fall (the 15th lunar months I believe). They eat moon cakes, tell legends and sing etc. Last night was a full moon, so for FHE we decided to have a moonlight picnic as our own little Moon Festival. We brought our moon blanket, (our picnic blanket happens to have moons and stars) had a lesson on the creation, sang songs and ate "moon pies" as we watched the moon rise. Some of my siblings may recall one of the songs we sang; "look the moon!...I see the moon, the moon sees me..." :). And has anyone ever had a moon pie? They are basically a commercial version of s'mores. I'm not sure where you can find them (not at Target, I looked) so we made our own version: nutella and marshmallow cream spread on graham crackers.

We had a lot of fun and it was hard to leave, but we just might do it again for the next full moon. If anyone wants to have a moonlight picnic, the next full moon is October 14th. It's actually the "Harvest Moon" I think (the first full moon closest to Autum Equinox) so thats tradition packed too!

Thanks for the idea! It sounds like fun...I am not so creative, so I have to use other peoples ideas.

Haha, I second Jodi. Looks like you guys had fun. I wonder which park you ended up going to. Sometime soon, lets do another combined FHE.

Haha, whatever you guys... I totally stole the idea too. Our RS newsletter mentioned the moon festival and maybe doing a picnic, so I researched it and went of that. Totally not my idea...

Brooke, we would LOVE to combine sometime! Oh and we just went to Sharon Hills Park, no one busted us, thank goodness. (There were actually a few other bikers and dog walkers.)

How fun! Cracker Barrel sells Moon Pies, but I'm pretty sure they dont have any in California. Sinclair gas station also had them when I worked there. Occasionally Ben finds them in some gas stations. Oh, the benefits of working random places....
